The final week before the NPTE should reduce uncertainty, not create more of it. Confirm logistics, retrieve a short list of repeated concepts, normalize sleep, and taper heavy question volume. You are preparing to use what you learned across five sections.
Seven days out
- Confirm the testing date, time, and Prometric location.
- Check the name on registration against your identification.
- Read the current FSBPT identification requirements.
- Map the route and parking or transit plan.
- Confirm work, childcare, or other responsibilities.
- Review permitted belongings and locker rules.
FSBPT advises arriving at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start. Plan for a margin beyond the ideal travel time.
Six to five days out
Complete the last substantial mixed practice early in this window. If a full-length rehearsal is still planned, leave enough time to review and recover. Do not take one merely because a calendar says you should if fatigue or lack of review would make it unhelpful.
Review:
- Confident misconceptions
- Repeated task-word errors
- One or two high-priority content gaps
- Pacing checkpoints
Avoid reopening every textbook.
Four to three days out
Shift to short mixed sets and retrieval:
- Explain high-value distinctions without notes.
- Review a compact error log.
- Sample smaller systems and safety.
- Stop when attention quality falls.
Prepare the practical items allowed under current rules:
- Qualifying identification
- Ordinary food and drink for the permitted break process
- Necessary medication
- Comfortable clothing appropriate for the testing center
Check official instructions rather than relying on an old packing list.
Two days out
Reduce question volume. Confirm:
- Alarm and backup alarm
- Route
- Arrival time
- Identification
- Food, drink, and medication
- Testing-center contact details
Review the cell-phone policy. FSBPT prohibits phone access at any point during the exam, including breaks.
The day before
Use only light review if it feels helpful:
- Task-word checklist
- Pacing plan
- A few stable concepts
- Test-day sequence
Do not try to compensate for the entire study period in one night. Keep meals, caffeine, and sleep routines familiar. Avoid experimenting with new supplements or extreme strategies.
Exam morning
- Eat a familiar meal.
- Leave with extra travel time.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early.
- Store belongings as directed.
- Follow the test-center administrator’s instructions.
FSBPT describes identity checks, a photograph, signature verification, fingerprinting, and security screening as part of check-in.
During the exam
Use the tutorial
The tutorial does not count against exam time. Read it and confirm the interface.
Work within section boundaries
You may navigate and mark items in the current section. Once the section ends, you cannot return.
Answer every item
There is no penalty for an incorrect answer. Protect time to choose an option for every question.
Use the scheduled break
The 15-minute scheduled break occurs after section two and does not subtract from the exam timer. Other breaks are unscheduled and use exam time. Follow all sign-out, locker, and phone restrictions.
Report disruptions
If a testing issue occurs, notify Prometric staff promptly and follow FSBPT’s published process.
What not to bring mentally
- A target based on an unofficial raw-score formula
- The belief that hard questions mean you are failing
- The previous section after it closes
- A need to feel calm every minute
Return to the question in front of you.
After the exam
Do not reconstruct protected questions. Note only broad observations about pacing or stamina. FSBPT posts score status according to its reporting process; difficulty feelings cannot determine the outcome.
One-page checklist
- [ ] Date, time, and location confirmed
- [ ] Identification checked
- [ ] Route and arrival buffer planned
- [ ] Food, drink, and medication prepared
- [ ] Phone policy understood
- [ ] Pacing checkpoints rehearsed
- [ ] Final heavy study completed
- [ ] Sleep protected
PTverse can help with light content review during the early part of the week. In the final days, use it selectively rather than chasing a new volume record.
